Why does your gums swell up and stay swollen. Had it done on 9/27/13 gums still a little sore.

I'm sorry to hear about the swollen gums. It sounds like you did an in-office whitening procedure. Bleaching gel can irritate the gums if it comes into contact with it and if combined with a UV light. What type of whitening procedure did you have specifically?

Gum tissue irritation is usually directly related to the concentration of hyrogen peroxide or carbomide peroxide found in the bleaching gel being used. Have you tried whitneing your teeth with a lower concentration bleaching gel an custom made trays?
