Sonicare FlexCare Plus

The Sonicare FlexCare + is the superior model of the FlexCare toothbrush line. With the patented sonic technology, it delivers 31,000 vibrations per minute, which helps remove plaque as well as create oxygen rich foam that flushes between the gums and at gumlines to remove plaque.

An exciting feature available with the Sonicare Flex Care Plus electric toothbrush is the UV Brush Head Sanitizer. The sanitizer removes 99% of bacteria and viruses from the Sonicare toothbrush heads, keeping your mouth healthier and cleaner than ever before.

5 custom brushing modes target normal cleaning and specific needs like sensitive and massage. For the first time ever, the Sonicare FlexCare + also features a Refresh Mode, which is a short 1-minute brush mode for quick touch-up. This is great for after a snack or before heading out for dinner with friends, when you just want to freshen up. Also, the Gum Care mode allows for additional care to be spent in problem areas, resulting in better overall oral health.

The FlexCare Plus also comes with 2 brush heads and a travel charger. The brush also holds a charge of up to 3 weeks. This makes it easy to share and take on trips or even share it with your spouse or family member, thanks to Sonicare’s color coded brush heads.

How does the Sonicare FlexCare work?

The high quality brush body of the FlexCare+ features a chrome plated, illuminated display, which indicates which brushing mode is currently in use and if the battery is charged. A rubber grip also makes it easier to hold.

A UV Brush Head Sanitizer works with compatible Sonicare brush heads to help eliminate up to 99% of viruses and bacteria like H. Simplex-1, S. Mutans and E.Coli.

Clean toothbrush bristles at every use help improve gum and systemic health. The sanitizer runs in a 10-minute cycle and can be purchased separately if desired.

5 Brush Modes are available for use. The Clean Mode is the standard mode for which most users will need the brush. Sensitive Mode is great for users who have sensitive teeth or gum recession, because it’s gentler to use. Refresh Mode is a 1-minute touch-up mode for quick refreshment throughout the day. Massage Mode stimulates gum tissue around the mouth where teeth may not be present, or in areas that are normally covered like with dentures or partials. Gum Care mode is a 2 minute clean mode with an additional 1 minute added to go back and touch up any areas that need extra care. Not many other electric brushes offer this mode, so it makes the FlexCare+ unique. The Gum Care mode can help improve gum health in 2 weeks by gentle cleansing around the gums in problem areas.

The Easy-start Program works uses into the Sonicare experience by gradually increasing the brush’s power within the first 14 uses. It’s 2-minute Smartimer directs users to brush for the dentist recommended amount of time. A 30-second Quadpacer alerts users when it is time to move from one quadrant of the mouth to another, increasing the thoroughness of their brushing.

ProResults Brush Heads that are compatible with the FlexCare+ come in 2 sizes: standard and compact. Standard brushes feature a wider range of bristle motion with a contour fit. Compact brush heads work well in areas that are hard to reach, or for users with smaller mouths. Color-coding of each brush head allows for multiple users to use the same FlexCare+ brush body. The replacement brush heads range from $6-8 a piece.

Patented Sonic Technology allows the brush to vibrate at a rate of 31,000 times a minute…something not even possible with a manual toothbrush. This helps Sonicare brushes remove more plaque and created an effect of oxygenated foam, which flushes between teeth and under gums, improving gum health.  The brush’s battery life can last up to 3 weeks between charges.

Sonicare FlexCare Plus Advantages

UV Brush Head Sanitizer
How can you beat using the UV Brush Head Sanitizer? It helps destroy bacteria like E. Coli, S. Mutans and H. Simplex-1. This can make your brush head last longer by not having to, for instance, throw it out when you’re recovering from a fever blister. We also think this can’t do anything but good for people suffering from active gum disease or who are immunocompromised, such as patients with cancer.

5 Modes
The brush modes for the FlexCare+ are very unique. 2 modes that are not offered by many other electric toothbrushes, the Gum Care and Fresh modes, are by the FlexCare+. These are the Gum Care

Sonicare FlexCare Plus Disadvantages

Travel Charger does not fit into the Travel Case
While there is a travel case available for the brush body and heads, it does not hold the travel charger that is included with the kit. Because the rechargeable battery can hold a charge for up to 3 weeks, this should not be an issue for short business trips or overnight stays.

UV Sanitizer emits bright light
A few consumers have complained that the light emitted from the UV sanitizer can be an issue if you’re using it in the evenings near bedtime. However, we don’t think this is really an issue because the cycle only lasts 10 minutes and you can probably close the door to your bathroom.

Differences between Sonicare FlexCare+ and Sonicare FlexCare

The Sonicare Flexcare series is has the models RS930 (HX6932) and the R910 (HX6911, HX6942). Both products feature the same electric toothbrush. However, the RS930 (FlexCare+) features an a UV sanitizer and comes packaged with both a compact-size and standard brush heads. The R910 (Regular FlexCare model) has no UV santizier and comes packaged with a single standard-size head. (Model numbers, so make sure you check before you buy.)

The Bottom Line

The FlexCare + is really a top of the line brush when it comes to all of the features that most consumers need or want in an electric toothbrush. All of the various modes help patients even with specific needs such as sensitive teeth. While this brush does not feature a specific mode targeted at whitening, it still states that the sonic technology helps to remove surface stains. We don’t think that the lack of a whitening mode should prevent anyone from considering it.

The UV Sanitizer is a great reason to purchase this brush, even though the sanitizer can be purchased separately if desired. It’s a wonderful way to immediately help improve your oral health by destroying bacteria that causes gum disease and other illnesses that could harbor in-between toothbrush bristles. For people who are at-risk or immunocompromised, the UV Sanitizer could be a very good option to have.

At bout $150-$190, it is a chunk of change for the initial investment. It’s easy to see the quality of the construction and that it’s made to last. But Sonicare toothbrushes can help you improve your dental health between dentist appointments.

Sonicare is a well-known and well-performing brand that is recommended by dentists and hygienists. It’s safe to use for all patients, even people with braces. Studies show that the FlexCare brush line removes more plaque than a manual toothbrush, even with braces. Because it removes more plaque and also encourages a longer brushing duration, users can have dramatic improvement in their oral hygiene and gum health.

How well it works
Paid $149.99

Never had better dentist visits. I consistently have virtually no plaque on my teeth. Been using it for 3 years now and I will never go back to a manual toothbrush.

How well it works

Coffee drinker here and its hard to keep teeth looking white. I found this Sonicare brush a little harsh at first, but got used to it. Expensive though; but I guess its cheaper than whitening or going to the dentist all the time.
