Whitening a Maryland Bridge?

Hi all,
I'm looking for some advice: In 1992 I lost two permanent teeth in a cycling accident, and since 2001 I've had what's called a Maryland Bridge.  It's a pair of convincing false teeth cemented to my natural teeth either side of it.  I've always been very pleased with it but am frustrated as it seems to be an obstacle to whitening.  Does anyone have any ideas about how false teeth can be whitened along with natural teeth? The only option I can think of so far is for the bridge to be covered by two cerinate lumineers, which cost several hundred pounds each.  I'd like to think there was another option.

Re: Whitening a Maryland Bridge?

You cannot do lumineers over the bridge.  Lumineers are meant to be placed over natural teeth, but they are not good anyway.

When was the last time you did a polishing at your dentist? While you cannot whiten the bridge, you can remove the extrinsic stains by polishing the porcelain surface with special materials (your dentist will decide on that). Your best bet is to see if the bridge can be re-polished by visiting a cosmetic dentist.

If they are polished and at "full luster" and they are still not as white as your natural teeth, you should replace them after you get your natural teeth to your ideal whiteness.

let me know if you have any more questions.

Good luck to you!

Thanks very much for your reply.  I've never had a polishing but I'll ask about it.

Re: Whitening a Maryland Bridge?

Your Welcome! Please ask about it and let us know if that resolved your issues. The removal of the extrinsic stains might be the only thing you need to do to give it a "whiter" apperance.
