GLO Brilliant Teeth Whitening Brand Overview

When you look at GLO, you're tempted to think, “If Steve Jobs had been a dentist, he would have invented this.” And that's no accident, Dr. Jonathan Levine has looked at the whitening industry's 15+ year old technology and come up with the next generation of improvements-with clear inspiration from the Apple revolutionary.

In fact, GLO is the leader-of-the-pack in the new over-the-counter Whitening 2.0 products that are reshaping both in-office and at-home whitening procedures. Mostly focused on reducing or eliminating sensitivity issues, many of these new whitening technologies reduce the amount of time your teeth are exposed to whitening gel; the culprit in sensitivity for most people.

However, Dr. Jonathan Levine and his wife Stacey, have gone much further into updating the typical whitening protocol. They've looked at everything from the hardware to the gel formulas to the marketing and even the patient experience philosophies behind teeth whitening.

In the reviews that follows, we’ll detail how some of the GLO science has changed teeth whitening for the better, but as part of this overview, we want to discuss the philosophy behind GLO. We don't usually see a lot of originality behind the development of or marketing pitches for new OTC (over-the-counter) teeth whitening products. All of the components needed for standard teeth whitening (gels, lights, mouth-trays etc.) are readily available and in most cases, can be purchased, repackaged and sold by anyone. In many circumstances, it is a field full of fast-buck artists. (See our category on Scams).

Likewise, it is a high-profit business for some of the biggest brands in the world. Many household names in whitestrips sell for $35.00 or more and many people whiten their teeth multiple times per year; so that securing loyal customers and selling each of them multiple units becomes the path to profitability.

The GLO Brilliant Teeth Whitening System however, is actually designed to become a personal care appliance-much like a power toothbrush, a hair dryer or a curling iron. Dr. Levine understands that teeth whitening is now a regular part of personal hygiene and is looking for a way to make it easy, sensible and practical. He and Stacey have thought through the kind of changes that make sense – and have made them; everything from ensuring that the whitening gel stays fresh to designing and manufacturing components that last. Until now, we haven't seen anything like this before.

GLO Brilliant Teeth Whitening System Review

The GLO System doesn't exactly change the way teeth are whitened; there's still whitening gel and application and time involved. But when you look at the actual design and formulation changes in detail; the improvements are so precise and intelligent that it just seems like a new kind of whitening.

GLO will whiten teeth 5 shades in 5 days without sensitivity-and can help remove surface stains on restorations. And, yes, they already have several patents and more pending, and they've won the 2012 Edison Award for Innovation in Teeth Whitening, but those are just words. Let's go component-by-component to see the small changes that make an enormous difference.

GLO Brilliant Mouthpiece

GLO is, at it's core, a light & heat activated whitening system. GLO whitens teeth using “patented Guided Light Optic (G.L.O.) technology, with strategically placed heat resistors and LED light built into a closed system mouthpiece.”

OK, that's all marketing speak from GLO, but here's what it means. A lot of the pain, disappointment and inefficiency of at-home whitening is caused by oozing gel, poorly fitting mouth trays or whitestrips and, if light activated, a light/heat beam that hits your gums as well as your teeth.

But, the heat & light from the GLO mouthpiece is guided to reach only your teeth; a real step forward in reducing sensitivity and maximizing chemical activation. Additionally, the mouthpiece has little ridges on the upper and lower arches, helping ensure that the gel actually stays put on your teeth; its design prevents the gel from oozing out of the top or bottom. The result? More gel stays put, more light/heat hits its target and there's more opportunity for a real chemical reaction (whitening) to take place.

Moreover, the edges of the mouthpiece are soft and easy to work with, and the thing is actually comfortable. It's well-made and tough enough to use over and over again as part of your regular personal care routine. You can order extra mouthpieces, too, so everyone in your family who whitens can take advantage of the technology.

GLO Whitening Gels (10-G-Vials or 40 applications)

There are a bunch of great ideas here. We’re very impressed by the Brilliant Whitening Gel itself. Most at-home whitening gels utilize carbamide peroxide which is a more shelf-stable version of hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide breaks down over time and with heat, so even though it is stronger than its shelf-friendly cousin, by the time it     gets to you, who knows? Some companies, knowing that it will break down, use really strong Hydrogen Peroxide. GLO gel uses PVP-Hydrogen Peroxide which is a formulation that stays fresher longer by reacting only after contact with water or saliva. Additionally, the formula contains ingredients which help the peroxide to form a bioadhesive gel – meaning that the gel stays put on your teeth and doesn't ooze over to your gums-all on its own. One more unique thing about the formula? Additional surfactants help to create a sticky gel for natural teeth and also help it stick to restorations (crowns, etc.) to help remove surface stains. TIP: Store opened G-Vials in the refrigerator, it'll keep the gel fresher, longer.

Finally, the G-Vial. We don't blame them for giving the delivery device/applicator a cool name; it's really a very clever innovation. Each G-Vial contains one day's gel supply – enough for 4 8-minute sessions - and features a small brush for application directly onto your teeth, instead of filling oozy, ill-fitting trays. I can apply gel to all my teeth and never once touch my gums. You'll get 10 G-Vials with your order – and that's enough for two 5-day/5-shade sessions for one person. You can order additional G-Vials as you (or     family members) need them, so this becomes the full-time dental care appliance it was designed to be.

GLO Power Source, Charging Dock & Lanyard

Hands-free whitening. The GLO mouthpiece is powered by a small, rechargeable iPod-ish power source. You'll charge the power source with its own charging dock (just like all your other chargeable appliances) and then plug your mouthpiece in and watch it light up. Use the accompanying lanyard and wear it around your neck as you whiten. It turns off AUTOMATICALLY after 8 minutes. You can't over whiten in a single session. Another really smart and simple detail.

GLO Lip Care

Whitening your teeth can also make your mouth dry and cracked. That's why GLO makes a lip balm full of moisturizing ingredients. Use it – whether you're male or female – with each 8-minute session.

GLO Brilliant Tooth Whitening Advantages

Since it's part of our regular format here at teethwhiteningreviews.com to talk about each teeth whitening system's advantages, let me summarize: 1) GLO delivers reliable results – you can pretty much count on a 5-shade change (if you haven’t whitened before) because there is very little that can “go wrong” with the procedure. 2) GLO will eliminate sensitivity for most users, and 3) If you're a frequent teeth whitener, as more and more of us are, GLO seems like a good investment-even if it seems expensive at around $199. It's well-made, easy-to-use and is backed up by a genuine commitment.

DOES GLO Brilliant Whitening cause sensitivity?

The answer to this question isn't complicated – we just can't give you a simple “no.” ALL whitening procedures that use active peroxides can cause sensitivity. Whether or not you experience mild, moderate or severe reactions depends on your overall dental health. NEVER USE A MULTI-SESSION WHITENING PROCEDURE without KNOWING your teeth, gums and tissues are healthy. GLO has done due diligence to be able to claim it's sensitivity-free, but if you aren't sure about your teeth, get a check-up before pursuing any serious whitening treatment.

Where can I buy GLO Brilliant Tooth Whitening?

You may purchase the GLO Brilliant Tooth Whitening System through HSN and HSN.com, Sephora, Amazon and at major retailers across the country. You do not need a prescription.

GLO Brilliant Whitening Factor

Reliable results of 5 shades in 5 days with the ability to re-use the system for touch-ups as needed. Additionally, other GLO products are available to help maintain your whiter smile. While the company offers testimonials, we're anxious to receive some from you. Try the GLO system and tell us what you think!

I can't tell you how effective the whitening is, but I can tell you that I received a defective power device. It died on day 3. Customer service is a laugh -- they are replacing the power cord, but refuse to provide three of the little vial packs so I can start over again. This despite the fact that the GLO literature states that it is important to use the product on 5 to 10 consecutive days!

I ordered this from HSN and am very satisfied with the immediate results. Within the first 3 days my teeth are noticeably whiter and plan to go the whole ten. I agree with the others who commented that the applicators do not make the most efficitent use of the gel. While I ordered mine from HSN II'll probably get refills at Sephora to avoid shipping charges.

I've been using the product for a month and my teeth are whiter. Audrina, the lip balm will not help with the burning lips unless you put it on the inside soft tissue on the back of them. I placed medical tap on the back of the mouth piece and the burning stopped. The company needs to update the mouth piece. It does work and I think it is a good investment to keep your teeth white because you can continuely treat them on your schedule.

I love it. Does not make gums feel tender like the store purchased applicators. I've not tried dental office procedure-though I heard about "sensitivity" issues. I really like Glo because it doesn't give you that "fake" or extra white glo in the dark look. the GLO apparatus is convenient and gives me that natural whitening look..

I enjoy this product..

I used this product for the 10 consecutive days as instructed and saw results within the first 5 days. There are people who do not know how to use this product correctly which may end in disatisfaction, please be aware that if you are using this product and continue to consume teeth staining foods/ drinks, you will not see a full result and if you cannot avoid coffee or smoking, try using a teeth whitnening toothpaste along with this product to lift surface stains. Also if you experienced lip burns its probably because you did not apply enough lip balm. As for the G-vials...cut them open if you cannot reach all of the gel and remember to refrigerate the rest.

I love the glo system it works!!! And I've only used 5 vials. Its true not all the gel gets out but I did get enough for the 4 treatments per vial.... I just tried to stretch it. And just a little sensitivity not nearly as painful as zoom. Over all great just expensive but worth it because it whitens without harsh sensitivity. and if you follow the directions you'll be fine.

Purchased from Sphora and used for 4 days straight as recommned for better results, hoping to see a diffrence but I never did, my teeth looked the same. I thought I could possibly not be using enough gel so I used a bit more in hopes of getting better results, but, no again, same thing. After use, my lips felt like I burned them so they were a bit tender. As for the gel, I have to totally agree about the gel and applicator. The applicator brushes that you use dries up quickly, and you don't get enough product to treat your teeth. You get 10G vials which is supposed to be enough gel for 4, 8 minute whitening applications which is supposed to give you 40 complete applications, but in reality, it's about 4 applications at max; that's becasue you can only get about 1/2 of the gel out of the vial and it dries up and becomes sticky won't stay on your teeth and unable to use so course, you end up having to use more than expected.

My expecation was that my teeth would be whiter, the number of applications I would be able to get at least 40 complete applications but in actuality, it's about 4-5 if that. With the gel cost being on the high end, I would not recommend. I could easily have gone to a dentist, paid $300 have my teeth whitened and be done. Instead, I ended up paying out more than I expected and no real results.

Based upon price and the product I expected more, but got less. The only thing I did like was the convience of being at home and not stuck in a chair waiting which makes it easy to do while you work out or put makeup on in the morning and it takes 4 8 minute treatments .

Used it for the first time today. The gel came out of the little plastic packaging as discribed and the complaint above is true, the last bit does not come out. I pulled the brush to get it out for the 4th treatment. I don't have any sensitivity on teeth, gums or lips. For the first day of treatment I would down grade this product on the gel packaging.

This product was as ineffective as it was overpriced. I purchased it on HSN. The gel was messy and clumped. You can not spread it on your teeth evenly. You couldn't squeeze the last 1/4 of the product out of the vials. I had to cut them. The worst part of my experience was that by the third day, the light device had burned the inside of my upper lip. I actually had blisters that took one week to heal. I could hardly eat. Perhaps they should market this as a weight loss product. I was not suprised to see that many other customers received burns as well. I waited until my mouth healed and attempted another trial. I was extremely careful with the light placement. I couldn't believe that the burns started again. This "dentist" is a charlatan. He certainly knows how to rip off marketing giants. His whole product packaging is such a blatant "Apple" lift, that it's laughable. Problem is, this product blows. I'm back to buying the NiteWhite gel in syringes.

This product rules, whitens teeth with no sensitivity! If used correctly you will not have a flat painful crest whitestirp white but 360 degrees of whitening! Most people don't read directions or can be impatient for results. It could take 10 days if your teeth are dark but most don't need that. Look no further this is the best way to whiten!

Total rip-off. Bought at HSN. Notice the reviews there are around a 2.5 average. Does not work as well as a cheap vial of bleach from ebay vendors.
The process is laborious...WAY overpriced. Would not recommend to my worst enemy..just set your $300 on fire. You'll never see it again. I'm surprised that HSN doesn't refund all of the dissatisfied customers, regardless of how long they had the product/device. Buyer beware!!!!

Glo uses a much lower concentration than Zoom and takes more sessions to work, even though it costs about the same. It's a pity that nobody has managed to copy Zoom in a more cost effective way (as Glo obviously tries).

Instead of buying this product, go to a convenience store, ask for a complimentary book of matches, go outdoors, strike one of the matches and set fire to a couple of "Benjamins."

This product falls FAR short of its claims. Most products do, but not as cavalierly as this company does.

Such behavior should not be rewarded.

This device works well. I used it for the maximum 10 days consecutively to bring my teeth up to the whitest level they are capable of. In my case, the whitening effect doesn't reach the sort of creepy, veneer-like, fluorescent white that I see a lot of people walking around with (the kind of whiteness that flashes when these people talk and you can't take your eyes off of their teeth). Just for reference, I drink a pot of coffee a day and I smoke cigarettes. My teeth came up to the A1 level. It is easy to use and fairly convenient. Each vial of gel has enough for 4 consecutive treatments, but it can be difficult to judge how much to put onto your teeth. Almost every time I did a treatment, I cut open the vial (there is always some left that you can't expel from the little tube) and applied the last of the 4 treatments of the day with a q-tip. I also have kept the gel on my teeth and hit the button on the device again, running a treatment for 16 minutes instead of 8 minutes with each application. I caution against doing this as I did end up with some sensitivity of the teeth themselves when doing this. It passed quickly (within 30" of ending the treatment for the day). It is expensive for a single outlay of cash, however, it works just as well as the dentist's whitening treatments, which is MORE expensive, and I can do this at my convenience at home. Additional whitening gel (a set of 10) is about $45.00, and these come with the device to run your first set of treatments (up to 10 consecutively--over 10 days). So, you will need additional gel over time to do touch ups, and that is something to consider also.

Ordered this system off Home Shopping Network. Regualr price $275. Sephora also has it. The applicator brushes (for applying the bleach ingredient) dried up quickly, which is my only complaint. You get enough product to treat your teeth twenty times, I think, and it works just as advertised. 8 minutes at a time with the blue light whitening devide in your mouth -- easy to do while you work out or put makeup on in the morning. The activating "solution" is sticky do it stays on your teeth and in cracks well, but it also ends up sticking in the container and sometimes the brush comes off in the container...so you waste that little container of whitening. I haven't tried to order more whitening agent, but I thought the device worked well for touch ups/in home treatment.
