Opalescence Take Home Whitening Gels Review

Opalescence offers one of the most popular and arguably the best take-home professional whitening product on the market. It is made by Ultradent and available in 10%, 10%PF, 15%PF, 20%PF and 35%PF carbamide peroxide concentrations to suit your bleaching and oral health needs. This procedure also provides you with custom-made mouth trays that your dentist will fit for you to ensure maximum gel-to-tooth contact when you wear them at home.

What does the PF stand for?

The PF stands for potassium nitrate and fluoride. A 2005 study in the Journal of Operative Dentistry found that the combination of potassium nitrate and fluoride in Opalescence PF reduces vulnerability to cavities and increases the re-mineralization of the enamel for greater tooth strength.

How does Opalescence take-home gels work?

First, your dentist will select the proper concentration of Carbamide Peroxide for your whitening needs. You can whiten with any of the formulas between 10% to 35% and get the same results – it just takes a longer period of time to achieve results with a lower concentration formula. Your dentist will also take impressions of your teeth, so that a laboratory can create custom bleaching trays just for you. You'll take the gels and trays home and wear them according to your dentist's instruction (minutes per day/days per week). You'll place the Opalescence gel into your bleaching trays and wear them as directed.

Using your custom-made tray with Opalescence

When using Opalesence it is important to have your dentist make very precise fitting trays with "block out" (reservoirs), since the bleaching gel will cause irritation if it comes into contact with your gums. Keep in mind that Opalescence is not water soluble; if the gel comes into contact with your gums from an overloaded tray, it will not just wear off or rinse off. You need to use a dry tissue or wash cloth to remove the excess from the gums. This is why reservoirs are so important – it helps to hold the material in the tray and not on the tissues. If you are bleaching for only a short time (i.e. 1 hour), reservoirs are not necessary for your fitting tray.

Do Opalescence whitening gels cause tooth sensitivity?

The higher concentration formulas can most definitely cause tooth sensitivity. If you experience sensitivity, you should tell your dentist and try a less concentrated formula (i.e. 10%). The other option is to use a desensitizer.php">desensitizing gel immediately after whitening your teeth (i.e. Relief ACP Oral Care Gel, UltraEZ Desensitizing Gel). A study done by Dr. Wm Browning of Medical College of GA tested the sensitivity factor of Opalescence PF 10%, NiteWhite Excel 2Z 10% and Rembrandt XtraComfort 10%. The study found that all exhibited some degree of sensitivity but Opalescence users had less sensitivity and for a significantly shorter period of time. Read our article about teeth whitening sensitivity for more information.

Do the different concentrations make a difference?

You can bleach from 10% to 35% and get the same results – it just takes a longer period of time to achieve results with a lower concentration formula.

How long does the bleaching gel last for?

Opalescence has a timed sustained release for 8-10 hours. It is recommended to do overnight bleaching, when possible, because of the products sustained release formula. It is not recommended to do overnight bleaching with the 20% and 35% formulas, as it could cause SEVERE sensitivity. Consult your dentist about this.

Whitening Factor

Results are often seen after just one night. Because this product uses custom fabricated trays, it is considered the “gold standard” in teeth whitening. If you have been disappointed by over-the-counter products, we highly recommend this product.

I had smoked for a few years and I drink coffee and tea everyday and my teeth were yellowing. I've been using the 15% solution for 4 days now and I definitely see a difference! I saw a difference after just the first treatment! I was getting some sensitivity and just skipped a day and that took care of the problem. The only inconvenience is the 4-6 hours that it says to wear the 15% solution. However, I see that several on this page have used the 15% solution overnight, which I think I will try as that seems to be more convenient. I'll see whether that increases sensitivity or not.

But so far, I'm very pleased with this product!

I have been using SP 15 for 12 days now (on my 4th syringe) overnight and have noticed no results at all, apart from that they are slightly brighter but not lighter. My dentist believed it would make a difference. I don't drink coffee, tea, wine or smoke etc. I'm experiencing sensitivity and throbbing in all of my teeth. It seems to be working for everyone else but not for me.

I have been using this product for a little over a week now and must say that this product is AMAZING!!! After just ONE night I saw drastic results! My teeth werent very yellow to begin with so I didnt think id see much difference, but after one night my teeth were bright white! People immediately commented on them! I use the 10% and wear them in my custom made trays over night for 8-10 hours. The first 2 days i saw drastic results and since then its stayed at the same whiteness. After the 3rd day I had horrible sensitivity, it was also Thanksgiving, worst time to get sensitive teeth. But that has been the only sensitivity I got so far. I think I may have just used a bit too much gel the night before, took some advil and felt much better. Cannot wait to continue using these and see how white my teeth can get! I am recommending this to everyone!!!

This is the first night I used the 15%,
after 2Hrs my white enamel were bleached with very very obvious white! (like liquidpaper white) while upper gum
Sort of remain the same. I am worried that the final result will have 2tones
1. Super white patches of enamel
2. The upper gum teeth area not so much of result
Ended up the 2 colour contrast a big difference. Does anybody here encounter the same problem? Will the colour eventually blend nicely after continuous usage of this product?? Help!

Awesome product. Recommend 10% for any and all applications. No need for anything higher. Won't work quicker. Take the time to do it right. Have patience. You didn't get discolored teeth over night. Get the tray. Use over night application. Brush all leftover gel out of trays each day along with teeth. Only use a drop of gel applied to deep portion of each tooth tray where bites meet. More than that simply is a waste of product and money. One tiny drop per tooth the size of a bee bee is all that is required to do the job. The gel bleeches the whole tooth throughout the night. Good luck and happy whitening. You will surely get noticed within days.kbu

My wedding is coming up and I've been using this product for a week now. My dentist did the impressions and sorted the trays (the cost for this in NZ is heaps) but wedding acct is paying for it haha.
I rec'd 10 10% syringes and saw pretty good results after 7 overnight treatments. I read the comments on this page and haven't overloaded the trays. I also did some research and ordered 4 35% syringes online - very cheap. They arrived today and I'm doing my first 35% session will aim for 2hrs as I experienced very little sensitivity with the 10% stuff. The worst was after the 2nd night, and then subsided after a day.
I'm tempted to sleep with the 35% but been advised against it - have had no discomfort at all with the 10%.

Very excited to continue using the product for a further two weeks until my next appointment to get my crowns completed! Be nice to see the colour match up the brighter end of the scale!

My dentist gave me the 10% syringe and I have been using for 1 week and I don't see any results...as a matter of fact my teeth look much yellow to me. I used this product overnight. I put the custom made trays in about 9 pm every night and take out every morning at about 7 am. NO results! Very disappointed. I did not experience any sensitivity.

This is the best product I ever tried. The 35% Carbamide formula hurts a little bit but it's worth the suffering.

Question: I am using the 35% syringes for the first time. I twisted the "cap" off and now the opening of the syringe is exposed to the air. Did I do something wrong??? Is the cap supposed to go back on the tip of the syringe? I don't like the idea of storing it exposed.

I was required to rate the product when I actually haven't used it yet, but my dentist said they have had excellent results.

I've been using the 20% version for a year and a half. I only tend to do them now for a few days leading up to a special occasion. I have a great smile (meaning straight teeth) to begin with but the compliments I've gotten since using Opalescence have been amazing! I don't use too much in the trays or it will sting my teeth. If I'm lazy I'll also just do the top tray since the bottom teeth are rarely seen much. Typically, I put them in at bedtime though and wake up in the middle of the night and take them out. Highly recommended!

I got this free from my dentist when I started my invisalign. I have sensitive teeth & tried the Crest white strips before, they hurt so bad that I never tried again. I figured nothing would every get my teeth white and I wouldnt be able to stand it if it could. Considering this over the counter product had me clawing at my mouth to get the strips out! Im a heavy smoker and coffee drinker and was already dumping a lot of money into my teeth to straighten them so at this point I decided I wanted them white no matter what. My dentist (who is fully aware of my sensitivity issues, they give me a numbing swish to use before I get cleanings) gave me the 15% trays. I was skeptical at first so I was only using the upper trays to see if I noticed a difference in shades between upper and lower. I didn't see any results until after my 2nd tray(itty bitty difference but we had something!). I would leave them on for about 30-40 mins (I was scared still about the sensitivity) at first my teeth were a little splotchy but that has all evened out now. Id go every other day (again, scared of the sensitivity issues) I am now very impressed, Ive used 5 of the 10 upper trays and I have to say there is at least a 5 shade difference between my top teeth and my lower. (time to start using those lower trays!)No sensitivity issues at all, except one time the gel got on my gums and that hurt pretty bad. I just took them off, wiped off my gums and put them back in with no problems. I definitely would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a decent product that works. I am hearing a lot about ordering from Amazon so I will look into that to keep the process going. Hope this helps someone out there cause I know I read A LOT of reviews when I first got it home & was a bit scared by what others have said, but I didnt have any issues and Im quite happy with my progress so far :)

This product is amazing. The key is to have trays that are custom fitted. I suggest starting out with the 10% and leaving on overnight. What has worked best for me is to use for 2-3 nights and then give my teeth a rest as they do become slightly sensitive. Also, it's imperative to use a minimal amount of gel. Also, please keep in mind that your teeth will continue to whiten during the day after the trays have been removed.

I've been using this for over 10 years and I swear by this brand. Patience is key - your teeth didn't become discolored overnight, so don't rush the bleaching process. I do not recommend doing overnights with anything other than the 10% - the sensitivity isn't worth it.

Once you've achieved your desired results, use the higher percentages for touch-ups. If you have an event to go to or something special - don't do the touch up that day. It works much better to do the day prior.

I've just started bleaching again as it had been 3 years since I last did it. 3x a week for the last 3 weeks has me back to where my teeth look really good (something that took months to achieve when I first started). I've ordered more 10% and also the 35% and I highly recommend purchasing from the seller known as pacificare on eBay. The product is fresh and the prices are the best. The 35% will be used to touch-up and give a boost to the overnight processes.

My only warning would be to avoid bleaching for a few days if you'll be drinking red wine. I've not had any bad experiences, but I know people that have. As for drinking coffee or tea - I've not ever given up my espresso - just brush your teeth after drinking it (you should be doing that anyhow) and your teeth will be fine.

There's nothing better than have a pretty smile - take advantage of the products available and accept the compliments you'll receive for having a beautiful smile. Having natural looking white teeth takes years off of your appearance and you'll look great.

I had a terrible experience with this product. I attempted to use it three times, each time wondering what I must be doing incorrectly. This product absolutely burned my gums up, and this was despite following protocol precisely. Mine was the 20% solution. I’ve used Crest strips without trouble, also Zoom whitening with no pain or irritation. Worse yet, the effect it had on my teeth was not good, it made them look like its name, very opalescent, with a blue hue. That couple with the angry red gums, well, it was the opposite of improvement.

I am a Registered Dental Assistant and have been using Opalescence 10% on and off for less than a year. At first I used the product over night for only 2-3 days, due to sensitivity. (Which was slight..but I can't stand sensitivity in my teeth.) Then I used it every other day. After about 1 week I saw a huge difference (3-4 shades lighter.). After my initial week, I've only use it periodically (for 1 night.) I made my husband custom trays today and he is going to try out the 35% Opalescence on Friday (his teeth are heavily stained.). I started him on Sensodyne tooth paste today in the hopes it will help ward off sensitivity. It's very important that your custom trays are trimmed to fit your teeth well. They cannot fit over your gums. You do not need to put a line of the gel across your entire tray. Simply put a tiny drop at the base of each anterior tooth (the teeth at your smile line.). Bleaching the teeth in the back of your mouth is unnecessary. No one sees the teeth in the back of your mouth, and it wastes the product. A tiny drop is all you need!! If you notice it on your gums...wope it off. It will cause pain in your gums.

I have the 35% gel and it has worked amazing for me! I have tried many over the counter products and none really seem to work for me. So I first decided to get my teeth professionally whitened at the dentist and my teeth got 4 shades lighter. My teeth looked way lighter and white to my family but not as light as id like them. So I got custom trays made by my dentist and got 2 35% gels and its worked great for me! I now get told I have pearly whites! :)

In order to get results and not burn your gums like most people do with whitening products but especially with this product is to:

1. Do NOT put a line of the gel all around the tray. Your wasting your gel and definitely gonna get it on your gums and it will burn them. Only a very small amount is needed. I put only about half the size of a bee bee in each tooth, it saves a lot of gel and saves your money.

2. When you apply your trays in make sure you press on every tooth lightly so that the gel is spread out on your tooth evenly so you don't have random spots that didn't get whitened.

3. If any gel does gel on your gums and you feel it burn, clean it off RIGHT AWAY. Usually if this happens to me, I just take the tray off and them just use a Q tip to wipe it off lightly from my gums and then I wipe the spot where the gel is on my tray that was touching my gums.

Those are the things I do to prevent my gums from getting burned and how I save myself some money by making my gel last.

Tips:

--I stopped purchasing the gel after I found out it was available on amazon and it was way cheaper. My dentist sells each tube for $20 and on amazon I usually get it for like $14-$20 BUT I get 4 tubes instead of just one. I usually buy mines from the seller named JAWTOOTH on amazon.

--Keeping your gel in the refrigerator help preserve it much better.

--If you have sensitive teeth then you should use a toothpaste that helps with sensitivity. I don't have sensitive teeth but a friend who uses Opalescence does and he says it helps him.

Hopefully this review helps any of you!

Used 10% for 3 weeks initially and use the same for touch ups for a couple of nights periodically. Fantastic results! SIX shades lighter! As a long time customer of my dentist, I got the trays for free and paid $50 for 8 syringes. I still pay that much when I go get more.

I used the 15% and got fair results. I did not drink tea, only coffee, during treatment period and I would use overnite-every night. I saw better results in the beginning, but I think the coffee reduced the whitening. My dentist said wait 24 hrs before drinking coffee, and don't drink hot coffee.
I had trouble putting the small amount in the trays and when it overloaded that is when I had sensitivity.
I will try again-using 20% overnite-every other day and wait 24 hrs to drink coffee, and drink iced coffee. I wish I could give up the coffee-but I can't!No tea was hard enough!
I had a little sensitivity-but Sensodyne toothpaste helped.

We do at least 100 whitening treatments per month. I have personally used most professional teeth whitening brands out there. Starting from Zoom to Opalescence and other brands.
Opalescence is not any different compared to others. People have to remember that the main ingredient responsible for whitening is Hydrogen Peroxide or Carbamide Peroxide. The higher the concentration of this ingredient in the whitening gel the better results and the higher the risk for sensitivity.
In my opinion the only thing that can make a difference between a Zoom product 25% HP and an Opalescence product 25% HP is the purity of the HP ingredient, which depends on the way they extract it. All the rest in my experience as a dental professional with extensive knowledge and experience in teeth whitening treatments, is non sense.
I have tried both Opalescence and other products on the same patient in a 6 months recall time. Patient was sensitive with both products. This leads me to believe that the so called "anti sensitivity properties" that all companies claim, are just for marketing purposes.

This is by far THE best whitening product I have ever used! I used to use Pearl Drops toothpaste and gel until I discovered Opalescence! I am currently using the 20% and when finished, planning to get the 35% for touch ups.

PROS:
>Easy to use
>Quick results - I saw results after the first session, and reached the desired level after just a week. I leave on as per the recommendations (2-4 hours).
>Very well priced, I paid $150 for the moulded tray and also 4 syringes of 20%

CONS:
>Can get sensitive teeth - I only found this happened when I used too much gel. Desensitizing toothpaste really helps this.
>Gel can be hard to dispense into mould for the first few times

TIPS:
>I use Pronamel just before I use the whitener... This stuff can't be great for the integrity of the enamel!
>ALWAYS floss AND brush before whitening
> 1/3 of a syringe is all you need for one session, top and bottom. I.e. 4 syringes should last 12 days use
> Too much gel = sore teeth and gums!

The Opalescence system works great BUT you have to know how to use it correctly. Here is what you do:

1. If using the 20% strength or weaker, use the product overnight.

2. If using the 35% strength, use for 30 minutes MAXIMUM.

3. Only use the product with custom trays and ALWAYS brush and floss immediately before using.

4. After placing the trays in your mouth and biting down gently, ALWAYS run a dry tissue over your gums to remove excess gel.

5. Use the product CONSISTENTLY until you achieve your desired whiteness. That means daily or as close to daily as you can. It may take weeks to go from yellow to white. Do not expect dramatic results if you only use the product occasionally or if you take too many days off between treatments.

6. If sensitivity is an issue, ALWAYS use a sensitive formula toothpaste. Your dentist can prescribe a high fluoride prescription sensitivity toothpaste if over the counter sensitivity toothpastes don't help. Also consider popping a Tylenol before inserting the trays. If sensitivity becomes too great, switch to a lower strength gel or take longer between treatments to allow the sensitivity to subside. But you must still use the product consistently.

I had yellow teeth all my life due to a high amount of calcium in my body. Over the counter whitening products didn't help much and caused major sensitivity. I finally had my dentist craft custom trays and tried Opalescence 20% overnight. However, I had to stop after 3 treatments due to extreme sensitivity. My dentist then gave me prescription sensitivity toothpaste and I have had only very minor sensitivity since then.

I used Opalescence 35% for 30 minutes daily until I reached the desired level of whiteness and now use the 20% strength overnight for occasional touch-ups. (I find whitening overnight more convenient than the 30-minute whitening; it's just a personal preference).

My results are fantastic. I don't know how many shades I've lightened but the difference is dramatic. My teeth have gone from a dark ivory-yellow to matching the whites of my eyes. It's a very natural looking shade, not that fake looking blinding white. If you want unnaturally white teeth, you could probably achieve that with continued consistent treatment but that just seems like overkill (in my opinion).

Also a word about tetracycline stained teeth: I don't know how well Opalescent works on that problem as tetracycline staining extends quite deep inside the tooth. However, my husband has gone from having very dark tetracycline stained teeth to bright white using the Kor system under our dentist's direction. If tetracycline stains are your problem and Opalescence doesn't work well for you then you might consider trying Kor.

I received my custom trays yesterday, and I am using 15%. The first time I tried it I felt no sensitivity, which I thought I did something wrong like not use enough of the gel but I did like my dentist told me, just one line all the way around my upper and lower trays. I saw no result from one time, probably because I didn't use enough gel. My dentist told me to leave them in for 2-2 1/2 hours everyday and not to sleep with them because I could swallow or or chew on them at night. Today is the second day I am using my trays and gel and this time I put a little more gel. I made sure I didn't have any gel left over because I was afraid of sensitivity. I did feel some mild sensitivity but that went away after a few hours. Today I did see a little change of color on my front teeth, the sides are harder to bleach for me because they are a shade darker then the front (my dentist said I have multi-color shades). My set was 198$ I know that other people paid less but my custom trays fit really good and I don't have any gel run over (just once I put to much and I felt it on my gums...ooops). I read a lot of positive reviews on this product so I decided to give it a try. I hope it works for me, I am a bit un-patient with results but my dentist said that I get the same results with 15% as I would with 35% and it is much lighter on the gums which is better for my teeth. After my two months supply is up, I will purchase the 15% from amazon which I found to have the cheapest refill syringes than going through my dentist. Once I get better results I will post before and after pictures. I found these reviews very helpful and thought I'd share my experience with this product!

This product works GREAT I used it as soon as I got it. I used the 35% strength. You can feel it working as soon as you put the tray in your mouth. It's really hard to keep it in your mouth a long period of time because your gums will be stinging. I think I should have went with a weaker strength. I would not recommend the higher strength for people with sensitive gums. Is there anything I can put on the guns so they won't get in contact with the gel while I am using the mouth piece?

I initially whitened my teeth with Opalescence 11 years ago and have applied touch-up applications 5 times since. My teeth have remained white and strong.
White teeth project a younger, healthy image. Whether presenting in the board room or applying to the mail room, bright white teeth make a good impression.

I've been using this product for about 4 years now. I used to be so self conscious about my teeth because of how yellow and dingy they were. I would always Photoshop my teeth to make them white in all of my pictures. After using Opalescence, I haven't even had to think about Photoshopping my pictures.

I try not to whiten them too often. Maybe once every 6 months. For me, it's incredibly painful to use. I can't keep it on for more than 2 hours or so, even if I pre-medicate with ibuprofen or Tylenol. There have been a few times where it oxidized my gums so badly that the skin around my teeth turned white and died and my gums were bleeing for about a week. I had to rinse with hydrogen peroxide and Magic Mouthwash every night just to keep them from getting infected and to stop the pain and swelling. Also, when I first remove the bleaching tray, I will have white spots all over my teeth, but those usually go away after a few hours.

Other than that, this is a great product. I don't appear to have any damage to my teeth, and they always look great afterwards.

Hi All

I've finished whitening my teeth and the results are fantastic.
I have 20 syringes of Opalescence® PF 20% left over and eBay won't allow me to sell it. I can't even sell it on Amazon. Anyways I would definitely recommend it.

Opalescence PF works.
I am a former heavy smoker and coffee drinker which discoloured my teeth and gave them a dull appearance. My Dentist recommended Opalescence and after 1 month I have experienced incredible results. I use 20% and bleach overnight. Sensitivity does occur but it's not unbearable, Sensodyne toothpaste is a must.
I have included before and after photo's.

I have been using this product for seven nights now. (15% PF) The results are amazing. I had my one week check-up at the dentist yesterday and he said that he has never seen such good results. In just one week my teeth have whitened SEVEN shades!!! I am very impressed with the results and do recommend this product to anyone looking for a brighter smile =*] No sensitivity and no gum soreness! I will continue to use this product for the full 21 days I LOVE IT!

I used this product with 20% for 4years ago. The result was awesome, I haven't wear it for 3 years now, but my teeth are still white, a lot of people was notice that my teeth are much whiter than theirs, they like my teeth a lot. To start, my dentist told me to wear it overnight for the first 21 days. After that just wear it whenever you want. The most important thing to remember that you have to wait at least 30mins after brush your teeth to wear it (so there no chemical left on the teeth). You wear it right before you go to bed, so no eating, no drinking water either, and no saliva also. That was how it work for me. Hope it will work for whoever try my method.

I started using Opalescence one month ago and I absolutely love the results. My orthodontist recommended that the first time I use Opalescence that I only have the trays/gel in for two hours. I didn't see much of a change. My mouth was a bit uncomfortable for the 2 hours when I first used Opalescence. My gums and teeth were a bit sensitive for about 24 hours. One area of my gums was a bit discolored and tender, and that went away within 1 hour. Make sure when using Opalescence that you are sure to wipe off any gel that has escaped from your trays and gotten onto your gums. That will cause them to burn; if there is no gel on your gums, there will be no burning :) Four days later I did a second trial and had them in for 4 hours. I immediately saw a much brighter smile. I am currently on my third trial (5 days after my 2nd trial) and am keeping them in for four hours. I am very pleased with this product and am the 4th person in my family to use it. I would recommend Opalescence to anyone that wants easy teeth whitening that has real results and can be compared to professional in-office teeth whitening procedures. I have been using 15% concentrate Opalescence.

I got this product almost 2 weeks ago and my teeth are SO much whiter it's crazy. They were so yellow before it was disgusting and now they are sparkling white. My teeth are a little bit sensative but what I do is my dentist gave me MI Paste which makes your teeth less sensitive. I put that on my teeth for 5 minutes and then bleach 30 minutes later. My teeth are usually really sensitive but now they are barely sensitive at all. I use the 10% and leave it on overnight for about 9 hours and I noticed a difference after 1 night. This is my favorite product ever!

Well, it's the end of round 2. My dentist agreed that the 30-minute-use-time method did not work for me and asked that I try the overnight method. Well, one month later, I still have the same dingy yellow teeth that I had when I started. This product has been a dismal failure and I am incredibly disappointed. Opalescence guarantees that its products will work and offers a 100% refund if the user is not satisfied; I'm not and I am going to ask for a refund. What a waste of time and money.

I used the 15% strength for 2 weeks. Nothing. Now I am using the 20% and in the middle of the second week. I am just beginning to see a little difference - maybe one shade. I am a bit disappointed but am still hoping to see white teeth. Any thoughts?

Used the last two nights and I see a considerable difference! I am in a bit of pain today though having kept them in for about 8hours both nights...I'm gonna have to skip tonight cause my teeth are throbbing. As for people complaining of gum problems my dentist told me to take care to not put it on gums, just one strip of gel at base of front tooth. She said to trim down any part of the mold where I am having prolonged gum exposure, and to take a toothbrush and brush off gums after inserting. She said a liitle white spot on gums after is normal but any red spots should be considered prolonged exposed spots and to concentrate on avoiding/caring for these areas with the next application.
I had bad yellow teeth from lots of coffee and smoking, even "permanent" stains are lifting!!! My teeth actually look white for the 1st time in a while, and I'm only two apps in! Though I am only going to leave on for 4-5hours in future due to the pain. Good luck to all!

I have nothing but great things to say about Opalescence! I originally went to my dentist and got my customized moulded tray and 2 syringes for $200 (soo expensive). I used 15%. I used it everynight for about a week and my teeth were quite sensitive so I stopped using it each night. I went onto Amazon and bought 4 syringes of 20% for just $15 and I use that on my teeth every 3rd night. I have got great results from Opalescence.. my teeth were never stained badly, they were slightly yellow but I wanted to get very white teeth and Im happy to say that I now have VERY white teeth! :) I do get a bit of sensitivity the next day but it is not unbearable and the results are worth it. You will need a customised tray for your teeth though. Dont use those silly at home moulding kits.

I started using this product (10%) about 3 years ago for a few months. I saw minimal to average results and had average sensitivity. I upped the dosage (35%) and started getting better results but the pain was too much if I used it too frequently. My teeth got pretty white and I got quite a few compliments. Its been almost 3 years and it's time to redo them, I've purchased the 20 and I'm sure it will work out good.

I have been using this product for nearly one month and there has been no appreciable difference in the appearance of my teeth from when I started using this product to this point. I can't begin to convey how disappointed I am with Opalescence. I need to replace two crowns on tooth numbers 8 and 9 and require two new crowns on 7 and 10 but both my dentist and I wanted my teeth to be their whitest prior to seating the crowns. What a waste of money....... My teeth are as dingy and yellow as when I started the bleaching regimen. I see my dentist on Tuesday, April 19, and she will get an earful. If I wanted to throw my money down the drain, I would have gone to a casino-gambling offers at least a chance of winning. This product stinks!

Like any whitening agent, OPAL will ONLY whiten your ENAMEL. the less enamel you have, or if it has been worn down over the years, it wont pick up the bleach. Which is why some people aren't seeing results or experiencing extreme pain, or spotting. I, like many others, experienced alot of sensitivity with this product when I wore it overnight because i have some enamel loss near the upper part of my teeth near the gums. i am using the 15%. The best way for me was to use it for about 1hour everyday or everyother day. and i got the same results and minimal to no sensitivity. overall this product really works considering that in 1 use you can get a shade whiter. :)

I have used whiteners from the dentist over the years. Last year when I purchased some (Opalescence) from the dentist I did not have a problem with any pain. Then last year when I used the remainder (kept it in the refrigerator) it left we with a very sore, red place on one place on my gum. I thought possibly it may be too old. I purchased a new container, used it a couple of times with just a little bead where each tooth is in the tray. My teeth were yellow near the gum line. Yesterday I bleached again and used more Opalescence so that the teeth at the gum line would whiten and my gums are terrible. At first when I took the trays out the pain was severe. They were kind of white with very places. Then last night they had a purple color a lot of places. Today many places are very red and raw with some little places being yellow. My teeth are white up to the gums but I hurt and pray my gums will heal. If anyone has an explanation, please give it. Also, it only happened on my upper gums; not the lower.

I love this product, I got 20% but I slept with my tray and in the next morning I wake up with alll my teeth very sensitivy. I skipped one day, and I did the same thing and again I wake with my teeth hurting. So I changed the way to use. What I do now, I use it for one a hour, and then brush my teeth to clean the gel in my teeth. I do not swallow my saliva during the treatment, I spit it in a glass, because I do not like to have the possibility of swallowing this gel. The results is very good. One a hour per day..

I have used the 35 percent for 3 nights, all night. No problems with pain or sensitivity. Dramatic improvement in whiteness of teeth, so I am very happy. I use small amounts, so have no gel leaking. This is so much better than Rembrant. Crest does practically nothing for me.

I've used Opalescence twice now; it's the 30 minute tray version.

The second time I had a strange side effect. I actually had mild upper-chest pain.

Do you think I may have swallowed this stuff, or did it slither down into my esophagus? This is more than a bit disconcerting.
