Nite White Review

The Nite White teeth whitening gel has gone through three revisions and is now on its third version: Nite White Excel 3 ACP. The bleaching gel uses a mixture of carbamide peroxide to whiten teeth. It is available in 10%, 16%, and 22% Carbamide Peroxide.

How does Nite White work?

The dual barrel syringe features two chambers - one separates a powerful and stabilized Carbamide Peroxide formula; the second chamber contains an activation gel with soothers, conditioners and desensitizers added. The gel is activiated through its auto-mixing nozzle precisely at the time of use for tooth whitening. Nite White uses a tray based system, so you will need a custom fitted tray to use this product (available at your local dentist).

Who manufactures the Nite White products?

Nite White and Day White are manufactured by Discus Dental.

Is there sensitivity with Nite White?

Some users might feel sensitivity with nite whitening. The sensitivity is caused by fluxing of O2&HCO2 ions through the dentinal tubules. If you are prone to sensitivity it is recommended to use a sensitivity toothpaste, like Sensodyne, for a week or two before you start whitening with Nite White. The other option is to use a desensitizing gel after whitening. (Read our article about teeth whitening sensitivity here.)

What is ACP Whitening?

Patented Calcium Phosphate is a formula that naturally bonds with the tooth surface to increase overall enamel smoothness and gloss, and reduce whitening fade-back (think enamel remineralization). Its rapid absorption into the teeth also functions to reduce transient sensitivity – this is an added benefit that is quite different from typical bleaching solutions.

What is the difference between the Z and ACP formulas of Nite White?

The Z formula has been replaced by the ACP formula. The Z formula contained Potassium Nitrate as a sensitivity reducer, however, it did not contain ACP. The ACP formula contains both ingredients to better control sensitivity problems that may arise during the bleaching process.

What is the difference between NiteWhite Excel & NiteWhite Excel Turbo?

Nite White Turbo is 6% hydrogen peroxide. Nite White Excel uses carbamide peroxide which is approximately 1/3 the concentration of hydrogen peroxide. Therefore, 15% carbamide peroxide would be equivalent to 5% hydrogen peroxide.
Nite White Turbo can produce the same whitening results in 3 days that regular Excel can achieve in 7-10 days - making it roughly 50-70% stronger than regular Excel. Stronger gels typically create more sensitivity however, so the Turbo gel is recommended to only those who have used Nite White 16% or 22%.

Bottom line

The Nite White bleaching gel works well and will bring about excellent results. In comparison to Ultradent's Opalescence, a study done by Dr. Wm Browning of Medical College of GA found that there were no significant differences between Opalescence and NiteWhite Excel for the 10% formula.

Shelf Life: 6-12 months. Up to 2 years if refigerated.

This product is said to be at it's peak when the gel from both tube get mixed together in the mixing tip.

Is it ok to use the leftover mixed gel in the tube for the next application the next day ? Will it still be effective and perform at it's peak ? Will placing it in the fridge help maintain it's effectiveness?

If not, how do you remove all the left over gel from the mixing tip?

Thanks!

Paid $370.00

I have been using NiteWhite for over a year now.. I initially got this from my dentist and paid around AUD $370.00 for the trays + bleeching tubes.

I would reccommend as it makes my teeth whiter just after one nights use. The only bad thing I would have to say about it is that the sensitivity is unbareable the entire next day I can hardly open my mouth as even AIR gives me jolts of pain! I do keep using it every so often to keep a brighter smile for a top-up. I just wish there was something I could do to ease the pain of my teeth. Using sensitive toothpaste definitely helps and I would reccomend you use this for a couple of days prior to starting the session.

First of all, I had customer trays made for £40 from Amazon, and then bought the gel from Amazon for £20, so £60 in total, which is considerably less than my dentist wanted to charge (£300)!

I'd had a check up a few weeks before and my dentist took some xrays and was happy with my teeth and said I would be an excellent candidate for bleaching. So I went ahead and did it myself!

I've been doing the bleaching for probably close to three weeks now and have got through nearly six syringes of the 22% gel. I began for the first few weeks doing the bleach for an hour a day, but the results were very slow. I saw on the internet that the recommended times for wear varied between 2-4 hours and overnight, so I then started wearing them for 2 hours a day.

I have sensitive teeth as I have a lot of enamel wear on the tips of my front teeth due to eating lots of fruit and drinking fruit juices without a straw. Surprisingly I felt very little discomfort whatsoever and barely no sensitivity, despite having not used a bleaching product previously. I did use sensitive toothpaste, so perhaps that helped.

You will see from my results that I do not have the "Hollywood white" teeth I had hoped for originally, and I feel a bit disappointed that my teeth are not whiter. However, I am fairly happy with the results as they are definitely not as yellow as before, though, you will see from the composite filling on my front tooth, that that didn't bleach so will need to be replaced. I think my teeth may be quite resistant to bleaching, or it could be that the enamel wear is exposing the colour of the dentin underneath the teeth and that it why they don't look markably whiter.

Been using the Nite White 16% for 5 nights - Thanks to the recommendations on here, and the product works great! Very noticeable results already and I can't imagine anything working better. Did take a couple of nights to get use to wear the trays overnight, but once you're over that initial disturbance, it's all fine. Bought my Nite White from whitersmile.com.au and this was the best price I could find in Australia. Funny enough, a few weeks later I had a dentists appointment and saw the same product for over $100!

AMAZING! I use the 22% and it works in about 3 treatments so 3 nights...l don't have sensitive teeth so l didn't feel a thing during or after the whitening...the shade stays for a good while but touchup is required after a year or so, as expected...all whitening products are expensive but this one is definitely worth it

I have super sensitive teeth and I have experienced some sharp pains using this while it's on, but I think the results are very much worth it. My teeth were pretty white befor, but I wanted that Hollywood look. My teeth are ALWAYS dicolored and splotchy afterward, but that is because they are dehydrated. They always go back to normal after a day or so. I use the 16% for one hour. Never longer bc the results plateau. Teeth also have a natural lighter or speckledness to the bottom of them so this is nothing to be concerned about if you have it. I love this and have used the store bought stuff and I can say none of them ever worked for me!

Hi.
So I started using this product yesterday (I have used it twice so far), and so far I have gotten some sensitivity on lower teeth, some splotches, and a stain on one of my front teeth I have never seen before. I obviously will stop until I talk to my dentist, but I am concerned as to if the splotches will fade because my smile is one of my main features.

I have been a dental hygienist for over 25 years and have watched the evolution of home dental whitening.

In our practice, we have been using the Discus products (Day White/Nite White) for a number of years. Prior to that time we tried several others. We have generally been very happy with the Discus results.

Due to different types of tooth staining, porosity of the enamel, and patient sensitivity, results can vary. Teeth with a grayish tone will not respond as well as those with a yellowish tint. If patients can't tolerate the bleaching material or trays (only custom trays are going to give the best result) that's going to be a problem.

As mentioned by others on this site, it is important to use a sensitivity toothpaste prior to beginning the bleaching process. Better yet, use the tooth paste and a flouride rinse (such as J&J ACT) .This closes the dentinal tubules that run from the surface of the tooth to the pulp. Continue this thoughout the bleaching process. Better yet, continue to use a daily fluoride rinse to guard against tooth decay. After inserting the trays remove any excess bleach from the gumline otherwise you will have sensitivity and inflammation.

The blotching and irregularity of the enamel color should improve with several applications and after bleaching is completed as the teeth rehydrate. Remember that whitening has a very limited effect on white, compsite fillings.

Don't consider bleaching a "one shot deal". You will probably need occasional touch-ups especiallyif you drink coffee, tea, red wineor use tobacco products.
Also, for best results try limit these during the bleaching process. Your teeth will be more porous during that time.

We have the ZOOM light in our practice but only do this procedure if the patient absolutely insists. Although it increases our chair productivity, patients tend to experience much more sensitivity and are less than satisfied...and for touch-ups they still need to use the in-home trays. It is more costly and produces the same results as custom trays with a good bleaching product, just faster.

Don't overuse these products. Not only for the health of your teeth but so that you have a natural, attractive smile. Overuse causes a chaulky, fake look...I can pick out a bleaching "abuser" from across a room. Just as we have different hair shades and skin tones, there are many shades of tooth enamel. There is only so much we can do to change that without going to costly veneers.

I hope this information will help someone.

Dear Keyla,

You are absolutely correct. You need to stop the product. The reason is that when you are using custom trays and you add a drop of peroxide then the drop is spread in different thickness. If you start with any splotches please stop immediately because if you continue using it then this part of tooth will be whiter and will not be nice. It is very hard to start without splotches unless you use 16-18%. But i had patients with 16-18% who did not see any difference.

The solution to your problem is to stop using the product until you will have common colour of the tooth. This can take 2 to 3 weeks for full colour restore.
After this go back to your dentist and ask for a zoom whiting method so you can apply peroxide by plasma injection smoothly in all surface of your tooth with the same amount. "Some people can use the trays without splotches" sorry but this not true. And especially the 22% will leave sure white line on the tooth.

regards Dr.Steve

The best way is to have your teeth Zoom(or another laser/UV system) whitened first. This is only about £100(150 US Dollars). Then use Nite-white
every few months as a 'top-up'. 22% is the best but can cause discomfort
if you have very sensitive teeth. But it is only an hour! Sorry, but NO PAIN, NO GAIN ! By buying on-line it's a very affordable system. Both my wife and I use it this way and it has worked excellently. You just have to brace yourself for the initial cost to your dentist/tooth specialist.
p.s. I suspect the blotches mentioned by some people are because they didn't have a professional system done first. Consequently, hard, deep stains will take a while with just pure chemical treatment.

I just used it one night for 4 hrs with the 22% with no sensitivity at all, I ended up with some splotches on my two front teeth which have scared me into not wanting to try it again. I'm not sure if I will be able to get rid of the splotches if I continue. Will they stay or should I discontinue use?

It worked great and I was very happy. Actually, I felt that it was money well spent!

My teeth were yellowish. When I smile and talk my bottom row rarely shows, so I only used the product on my upper row. It was easy to use, and I followed the dentist's instructions by using it for an hour the first night, a couple hours the second night, and then all night for the remaining three weeks. He told me to do that incase my teeth were sensitive. I had no issues with that.

After three weeks my upper row were white, and it was clear when they were compared to my lower row, which were still yellowish.

The cost was $120 a row. So I decided not to spend the money on the lower row, when they would not show. I'd say that $120 for white teeth, and peace of mind that when I smile and talk, people aren't judging me, it was well worth the money. When I laugh I don't cover my mouth anymore, and in pictures I have the big cheesy smiles now.

The product really worked great.

Nite White 16%. I am on the 12th day. I am disappointed with the results so far and hope that after the recommended 3 weeks of use by my dentist it will produce the results I was expecting. Sensitivity has been almost nothing, not even worth mentioning here. Using Sensodyne since a week before I started is probably helping. My teeth have whitened some, depends on what light I am in. Seem to look whiter in natural outdoor light than inside looking in a mirror. Definitely not "refrigerator" white like the celebrities on TV. LOL I was going to do the Zoom whitening in the office but dentist talked me out of it saying it can be, and usually is extremely painful. Also you have more control using the Nite White route.

It all depends what kind of teeth you have. If you are young and you have near perfect teeth, that just could do with a bit of lightening, then that is what you will get and you will be very happy very quickly.

Where like me your teeth have darkened with age, this will indeed make them several shades lighter, and will doubtless be very impressive, but it is not actual whitening. It is in fact teeth lightening which should be the proper description.

Those pictures you see of the models with perfect teeth have not got it through teeth whitening products. They have git it through veneers costing thousands and that is what you will have to do if you want the perfect film star teeth.

As well as this, if you have crowns, they will not lighten with the treatment so there is that difference as well.

That being said I enjoyed using it very much. My teeth actually looked a little lighter after the first treatment. A week later a friend said that I had done enough, I did not need to bother anymore, they were so good. Very flattering.

I was given the twenty-two per cent which you only need keep in for under an hour. If, because of sensitivity, your dentist gives you the sixteen per cent or lower, you have to keep the tray in your mouth over night.

Three years later it is still quite good but I am having another go as a top up.

I Just got the Nite White 16% from my dentist, and it was on special for $199, but because i am with medi bank private it only cost me 60.00 AUD i only have to pay 30% of my bill at the dentist and my refill syringes only cost me $9..

its very affordable, it works fantastic, i have no feelings at all.. no pain, only tiny bit of tingle when first goes on then nothing.. feels like im not wearing anything at all..

I love it, my teeth are already whiter and its only been 3 days, i am definately going to do the whole 2 weeks, just such a fantastic product..

My question to everyone who has used this though..

Some say teeth whitening makes your teeth weak.. is this true?

I purchased nite white from my Dentist and had custom trays made. The trays are good and after 2 weeks of almost consistent wearing my teeth have whitened apart from the gumline of my bottom teeth. I will have to continue with the bottom teeth a while longer although it is hard to localise the gell on this area. I think the product is over priced at the dentist, I note you can buy it cheaper online but as I have experienced sensitivity I want the support of my dentist just in case!
To get whiter, brighter teeth I think this product is good but wonder why in this day and age of medical advancement, we can't obtain whiter teeth without the pain.

My dentist advised me to whiten my teeth before I had a cap fixed on my front tooth. (Old childhood injury that wasn't done well.) I am very happy I did. The first set of tubes I got were a higher percent of concentration and caused a lot of sharp pain. Since then I have purchased 10% and have had no pain at all. It might take an extra application or two but it is worth it to not have pain.

As advised by the dentist, I used 16% Nite White ACP, but only 3 times per week. There was hardly any discomfort, certainly no pain. After 14 treatments my teeth were at least 3 shades whiter and I am very pleased with the outcome.

6 months later I had a further 3 treatments just to refresh the smile. Again, there was no negative reaction.

I am happy with the product (I can't blame the product for the high charges by the dentist)

Ive started using Nite White ACP (22%) and the results after 2 nights is outstanding. I had stains where braces were removed from my teeth but now they are becoming less and less noticable. They do seem to leave white dots or lines where the gel sat on my teeth. But it cleared up after 2 more nights. The pain was intolerable at one point in time and I stopped using it for a day. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to whiten their teeth effectively and quickly.

This is my third night of using the night time one at 17%. Have felt random sharp pain in the nerve/tips of my lower teeth mostly. Sometimes its a cripling unbearable pain that only lasts about 5 seconds. Eating chocolate also causes it to hurt a bit. have noticed it to be whiter already but definately am going to wait out the 2 weeks. If you miss a day, it doesnt matter, as long as you do it for 14 days, it doesnt have to be consecutive.

Mine was on special for $199 for the tray and 6 syringes. usually $500

Coming from France with yellow tooth, I was very excited about getting whiter teeth. I got the kit through my dentist, who is very good and well known in Seattle. Having to take impressions and make custom trays made it more expensive, but very worth it.
I never drink very cold (no ice ever) or very hot drinks so my teeth did not get very sensitive, only a little bit at one point.
The 2 first nights were more difficult, because having trays in my mouth caused me to salivate a great deal before falling asleep. The I got used to it, and there was not more discomfort.
After a few days there were whiter spots on certain teeth, but it all smoothed out nicely with consistent use.
The result was amazingly white teeth. For the first time I was able to fully smile and feel good about my Hollywood smile.
I used Nite White again a few weeks ago. My teeth got a bit more sensitive so I discontinued the process for 2 nights before resuming. Even though the kit was a few years old (not the best) it still worked nicely.
Now I can buy directly online and save money, and I can even chose some flavors. The flavorless option does not taste good.
I would recommend a custom tray and stay away from very cold or hot food or drinks.

As soon as I started using this product, my teeth went really patchy like some kind of chemical reaction! On a couple of teeth, there were blotches of extreme whiteness and then dirty colour on the the rest of the tooth. I had the whitening done through my orthodontist, as after having my braces removed I noticed my teeth had stains where the brackets were.

Now 4 weeks later, the patches are fading accept one stubborn bit, but the teeth now are a blueish / green white colour?? This product has caused me more worry and self consiousness.
I'm now using recaldent teeth moose to even out the colour & reverse any damage to the enamel. I'm warning all people don't make the mistake I have.

I have never had sensitive teeth in my life, the first night I wore this I was woken up at least every hour from the spasms in my teeth and gums. The sensitivity lasted up to 3 days afterward. It was horrible, to the point where I was in tears (not just from the pain, but thinking "what am I doing to my teeth - surely I'm doing long-term damage??"). I made it through 4 of the 6 tubes then couldn't go any further. The gel didn't whiten my teeth evenly, so they appeared to be speckled. My dentist was surprised at my reaction. Two months on, I'm relieved my teeth are no longer sensitive. My friend advised me to buy White Glo Whitening Pack from the supermarket at $15AUD, the results are better and no sensitivity at all and you only have to wear the solution for 5 minutes!

Yes, it works. But seriously? With this much intense pain after only two days, I can't imagine my teeth looking bad enough where this is worth it. Sure, it's nice to have white teeth, but is it really worth the intense pain I'm feeling at this very moment? Nope. Not even a little. This stuff hurts. Like, bad. Maybe I'll try it for a day at a time each week, or maybe even each month, but I am not doing this for any extended period of time ever again. After day one, there was a very slight pain, but this morning I woke up in serious pain due to Nite White and it has been hard to get through my classes all day. I have an exam tonight and I'm pretty sure the pain will not be gone by then.
Two Aspirins and an Advil later, I'm still in intense pain.
Thanks a ton, Nite White, killing my grades, but BOY do my teeth shine.

I purchased some NightWhite from Happysmileuk.com and am very pleased
with the results. After 3 nights of treatment my stains have gone and my teeth are much whiter.
Thankyou Happysmile!

I'm currently on day 5 and I can see a world of difference! Sensitivity is not too bad -- today is the worst so far, last few days, I was wondering if it was even working because I could not feel any sensitivity. I am using Sensodyne ProEnamel toothpaste, which probably helps. I have not been too strict about avoiding staining foods during treatment, and I honestly don't notice any effect.

Fantastic results with little sensitivity.
I bought Nite white 22% from my dentist but now wish to buy it online.
How do I know I am getting the genuine stuff!..Amazon looks like the best price but some reviews are not good and some purchasers have said it's not the real thing.
Can you guide me to the best website.
Thanks
Sandy

I used first an Opalescence kit 15% 4 syringes with custom dentist tray for about 10 days 4 hours b4 go to sleep.
The result was good but not very satisfactory, that was not the white that I was looking for I wanted whiter than that...Also it was very painful, that I was about to ask God to send to the future in every single application so the time would pass fast...Then I could figure out that the popular expression "No pain no Gain" was true hahaha :D
I'm in my early 30's, smoker and my whole life had soft drinks mede of cola and lately coffee to keep me up.
Now I am using the Nitewhite 10%... What a relief, I am using overnight, there's no pain and the result I reckon that is very Impressive, more than I was expect, I can clearly see my teeth getting whiter and whiter.
I recommend to use a 10% one, you have to do for more time but u do not suffer that much

Shame that I dont have a pic to show off!! But believe me it worth it !!!

When I first whitened I used Opalescence (years ago). It took about 3 weeks of using it 4 nights a week at 15% to get my teeth REALLY white. (and I mean REALLY WHITE).

I didn't have to whited again for about 6 years. I then got a hold of Nite White.

I can say Nite White is HANDS DOWN a better product and works faster.

Tooth pain/sensitivity is normal. And a MUST to get sensitivity paste.

Also Opalenscence makes a REALLY good tooth paste for stain removal. I reccommend using this while whitening to remove food stains. And brush OFTEN!

Blotchy patches and Spots: THIS IS COMMON! DON't WORRY ABOUT IT! It continue using Nite White until your teeth are the desired whiteness. It takes about 1 or 2 weeks of discontinued whitening to NORMALIZE your teeth and the spots/blotchy parts WILL GO AWAY! It has to do with the mineralization and ions in the teeth.

Dark or yellow stains where teeth meet or at the gums. If your teeth were really yellow or dark to begin with you will see that the areas between teeth and at the gums seem to remain stained. Just concentrate the bleach in those areas for a few treatments. EVERYONE's teeth are more yellow or darker between teeth and at the gum line. its just varies depending on what shade you are starting with.

I LOVE NITE WHITE!!

And here is a good tip....if you want your teeth to remain white: ALWAYS drink cola, tea, and coffee with a STRAW! and it might be a good idea to either limit you curry intake or ALWAYS brush with a whitening stain removal paste following eating any type of curry.

I used Nite White 16%. I used it only on my upper teeth because my bottom ones are not visible when I smile and talk and they are a bit sensitive.
At first, I started wearing the tray for 1-2 hours and later for 4 hours a day or night. After each time I used the Relief gel that came with the kit. I was also using Sensodine F. I experienced absolutely no pain/sensitivity etc. I noticed some white spots but they disappeared entirely within a week once I stopped whitening. So, after 2 weeks of whitening every day (sometimes twice a day) I achieved A1 after being A3. That was entirely enough for me.

I've been using this product since July 26th, only skipping a few nights due to sensitivity. Today is August 21 and I'm kind of disappointed that my teeth have only whitened a couple of levels at most. They're somewhat whiter but I was expecting more after going through four syringes of the product and paying the dentist $100 for the kit. Just started on the fifth syringe and will stop when I'm done. Hoping for a better outcome with probably one more week of whitening. We'll see. I'm sure not one of those folks who say their teeth whitened dramatically after only a few treatments. I'm almost at the end of my fourth week. They should be a lot whiter by now in my opinion.

I bought my Nite White for my fiance' and I off of Amazon for $14. It was the 22%, and a total of 4 tubes. I'm yet to wear it for the whole recommended hour, and tonight is only the second night I have used it. So far after 2 uses of only about 30mins per use, I can tell a significant difference. I have very sensitive teeth and gums, and at this point there is no pain or irritation. I'm a very skeptical person on "quick cheap tricks", however this has proved my skepticism wrong. I highly suggest the use of this product. As of now, due to the significance in whitening, I will most likely not reuse any for another month.

My dentist said not to use NiteWhite acp overnight, only for 2 to 4 hours a day. I know that some people have used to overnight. What is the correct amount of time to use this product.??

At my hygienist's advice, I used the product for less than an hour at a time and it really whitened my teeth with only a little pain. However, after a few (5-6) uses I got ugly streaks of gray on my bottom front teeth and a few other spots. I thought I was loosing enamel, but apparently using the product makes teeth more porous for the duration of treatment and my colorful diet (berries, salads, herbal teas) stained some parts of my teeth. The dentist polished them off today, and I will not use this on my bottom teeth again. However, after paying $250 I will use it on the top teeth when I have a special event to attend. Then I'm back to Crest strips, which worked fine for me.
